Foyle’s War

Christpher Foyle(Michael Kitchen) is a Detective Chief Superintendant in Hastings, Sussex, England during World War Two. As such he fights against crime that frequently takes advantage of the war-time condition such as pilfering, the black market, profiteering and murder. Foyle is assisted by Detective Sergeant Paul Milner(Anthony Howell) and a driver named Samantha Stuart(Honeysuckle Weeks).

I really enjoy Foyle’s War. It must be quite a challenge to make films about the past when it comes to sets, props, wardrobe and slang used at the time(or banter for you Monty Python fans). I am impressed by the job these folks have done making season after season always maintaining a high level of attention to details even when it comes to the background of shots, especially when shooting outdoors. That is representative of the overall quality of Foyle’s War.

Castle (TV Series)

Castle is an ABC police procedural comedy drama. It is about a top selling novel author who has killed off his main charactor and is looking for inspiration for a new novel and character. With his rich-guy author popularity Richard Castle(Nathan Fillion) is able to get into the NYPD to shadow some detectives. There he hooks up with detective Kate Beckett(Stana Katic) and begins his observations where he tries not to interfere but…

This is a very fun long running show.You know it is popular when it makes it to daytime TV reruns while it is still filming new shows for prime time! I like all the actors in this but I confess I originally watched because of Nathan Fillion and my Browncoat affiliation but continued watching on this shows merits which are many. American Horror Story

American Horror Story is a show that provides variety for the viewer. Don’t expect the next season to be like the previous season, I liked the first and third season, but the second one wasn’t as appealing and was very slow. From my view of the show it seems that each season has it’s own writer or they were having a over-encumbered year , and weren’t focusing on the show at the time. I can’t give you many names of the actors since their were so many, but many of the actors were reused for different seasons so you’ll see them in the next season. One of my favorite actors out of all of them is: Jessica Lange she was in every season even the new fourth season.

A Princess for Christmas

This is a Hallmark movie. Jules Daly, of Buffalo, NY, winds up the gaurdian of her niece and nephew, Milo and Maddie, when her sister and brother-in-law pass away.

There is trouble and Jules loses her job. Christmas prospects look pretty bleak. A surprise visit from the butler of the childrens’ paternal grandfather, Duke Edward of Castlebury, brings an invitation to spend Christmas with the Duke at his home.

Wolfblood

Wolfblood is a young teen werewolf television series. The main character is a girl in her low teens. She and her family are werewolves but as the series begins she hasn’t gone through her first transformation yet and the anticipation is causing her stress. As in most werewolf stories, werewolves in Wolfblood need to keep their condition secret, even from their normal friends and this is stressful for her. Soon she meets a new schoolmate and her situation complicates.

Wolfblood is a pleasant program with good acting, very basic but effective special effects, and good writers.

Homefront

In Homefront Jason Statham plays an ex DEA agent in witness protection. His daughter has an altercation with a bully in school and when she defends herself the bully’s mother gets angry and calls on her family to help her ‘get even’. In the ensuing chain of altercations, incuding the injury of our ex DEA agent’s friend, his identity gets out and here comes the seriously bad guys. 

Undercover Boss

Undercover Boss is just what it says it is big bosses go undercover as a low level employee in his or her own company. In doing so they learn what it is like as a ground level employee. They learn how decisions they make effect their employees. They see first hand how managers handle employees. They find out how upper management is perceived from lower levels. They learn to respect the all-important foundation of their companies. Sometimes they identify especially deserving employees or employees with special needs or that are going above and beyond the call of duty and respond accordingly.

Ripper Street

Ripper Street is a detective drama based on 1889 London’s Whitechapel district (east London). The story begins 6 months after the horrible Jack the Ripper murders. The main character Detective Inspector Edmund Reid(Mathew Macfadyen) along with Detective Sargent Bennet Drake(Jerome Flynn) do their best to fight crime and corruption which is rampant in their city.

Firefly

If you are looking for an utterly unique show to watch this is it. Firefly had one season the last episode was aired July 2003, but there is a huge following of fans to this day…including me! Fans refer to themselves as Browncoats for the uniform coats worn by the main character during his military service.

An ex-military man buys a small cargo spaceship classified as Firefly class and makes himself captain. The captain is joined by a military veteran he served with, her husband as pilot, a gung-ho badass, and a brilliant mechanic as crewmembers. More folks join as the story progresses and I think every character added makes the show better and none are superfluous. Oh there is also a character who rents one of the two shuttles on the Firefly and that character really gets my attention!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D is a series based on the Marvel Universe

S.H.I.E.L.D stands for Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division and their mission is keep people safe in world where you find individuals with superpowers and occurances of supernatural phenomena.

This series is fun. As a  kid I loved my comic books, the Marvel Universe grew and grew over the years, Thor, Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America were all there in my youth, and I for one am glad to see the popularity they and all their comrades still have.
