Dark Space

This movie is basic low end science fiction, but hey, it’s out there and I gave it a try. The story is about a group of college kids who rent a spaceship and plan some fun on a distant resort planet. The rental ship is too slow so they con their tech savy friend into trying to speed up the ship. In tampering with the ship a mistake is made and they fly into an asteroid field and damage their ship. They are forced to attempt a landing on an unidentified earth-like planet. Once on the planet things get rough, obviously.

This is not a bad story, and to be honest the effects are tolerable. I had a bit of a problem with the beer cans, drug smoking, and basic rowdy behavior on a space ship even in the far future. For some reason beer still in aluminum cans with the same pop-top bothered me…I would have expected changes! Still rolling joints and smoking weed in the future? Man, I hope the guy who envisioned this got it wrong.

This movie is not a complete waste of time but that is about the best I can say about it.
